Nonin Medical Launches Bluetooth® Wireless Pulse Oximeter For OEM: The World’s First Wearable Wireless Oximeter
Nonin Medical, Inc., developer and manufacturer of innovative pulse
oximetry products and other medical monitoring technologies, announced its launch of the first Bluetooth
enabled wireless pulse oximeter for medical device manufacturers. The 4100 Patient Module is a
lightweight, wrist-worn device that sends SpO2 , pulse rate, and plethysmographic waveform data via a fast,
reliable, and secure wireless connection - providing device manufacturers with a means to add pulse
oximetry to their systems without the constraints of an additional patient-to-device cable.
"Nonin is the first to eliminate the wire between patient and display. Wireless connectivity offers
enhanced patient comfort and improved mobility, and it may even improve patient acceptance," said Kevin
McGowan, Nonin's OEM Director. "This device is very easy to use, and it’s ideal for telemedicine, sleep,
and in-hospital monitoring applications."
Bluetooth is a proven technology, widely accepted in many consumer devices, that provides freedom
from wired connections. It is an automatic wireless connection for data transmission, even when the devices
are not in line-of-sight. Bluetooth uses a license-free, globally available frequency range in the Industrial
Scientific Medical (ISM) band -- to ensure communication compatibility worldwide.
