"I work in a busy pulmonary office and we have 2 fingertip pulse oximeters. We bought a Nonin 9500 about 4 years ago. It works as well as the day we bought it. We purchased a less expensive oximeter about 1.5 years ago and it is in pieces. It never worked as well as the Nonin and now it doesn't work at all! We have learned our lesson. We are going to purchase another Nonin. We really need 3 pulse oximeters in our office, but it is not in the budget. Maybe I can win one!"

"I have used the Onyx® several times and it truly is an awesome oximeter. I bought one 2 yrs ago-I have COPD- but it was stolen, and I have not been able to replace it. The past two years I have gone through 3 other brands all made in China- thumbs down! Nonin is a USA company and I will always support them and their products. Great Stuff!!"

"In 30 years of nursing in many different fields of medicine, I learned the hard way that it doesn't pay to pick the cheaper oximeter. I've always had a sense of assurance when using Nonin in the past that I really knew what my patient's O2 SATs were. But the oximeters were always provided for use by my employers. When I started working for a non-profit elderly organization, funds were tight so I found an 'affordable' oximeter and bought it. My assurance of accurate readings went out the window with very questionable readings. This compromises the care of my patients who are ill and need good nursing care. I am now going back to the good brand name of Nonin. My patients are more than worth good quality oxygen saturation monitoring. Good data gathering is essential to good care."

"I work as a pre-surgical and post anesthesia recovery RN. Our pre-surgical rooms don't have built in pulse oximeters and we only have two or three that we share between eight rooms which are always full. I always have to chase down a pulse oximeter from another RN and another patient and usually wait before I can work on my patient. Valuable time is always lost trying to locate where out of the eight rooms I will find a pulse oximeter. Your Onyx® pulse oximeter seems very durable and is so handy. Having one of your Onyx would make patient care so much more streamlined if it is always there and always handy for patient use. Also during transport from recovery room to patient room Onyx would be the perfect solution to our large, bulky 10lb monitors. There would be no more hunting up and down the hallway if I had my very own Onyx! My husband has his own onyx ring, it is time that I have my own Nonin Onyx. ;-) Thank you."

"While I was working as a registered nurse in a very busy Endoscopy Department in Baltimore, MD, I was introduced to the Onyx® by a wonderful pulmonary medicine physician. He was doing research with people diagnosed with scleroderma. In order to provide 'conscious sedation' to these patients for their bronchoscopy procedure, we had to have an oximeter working from start to finish. On one such patient we were unable to maintain oximetry due to the patient's poor circulatory status (a direct consequence of her disease). The physician happened to have the Onyx in his pocket and gave it to me in order to successfully complete the bronchoscopy. I placed it on the patient's severely sclerosed finger, and it worked almost immediately. I was astonished. Since that time I have recommended this product at every appropriate opportunity."

"With COPD, my pulmonologist recommended that I participate in a respiratory rehab program. On the third visit, I overdid the treadmill exercise. Fortunately, the RN member of the team noticed that I was becoming pale. We found that my oxygen saturation was in the mid 80% range. From then on, we monitored my levels to ensure I remained 'conscious.' When my sessions were completed, I asked the Rehab nurse what she recommended in the way of a pulse oximeter so I could continue to monitor myself during home exercise. Without hesitation she said, 'Nonin Onyx®.' When I visited my pulmonologist, he echoed her recommendation. Needless to say, 'I'm sold!'"

"On March 3, 2005 I purchased a Nonin Onyx® 9500 through an AARC Promotion in my home state of Kansas. My husband has sleep apnea and is on BIPAP, and has had pneumonia several times.
It has given me peace of mind to know that I can monitor his SP02 at home. I love my NONIN! It has been very beneficial to have my own pulse oximeter to use in the hospital setting. I work at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR and use it every night that I work. It was a great investment. I have been a Respiratory Therapist for 18 years and wish I had purchased one before 2005. On September 22, 2008 our house was robbed and one of the items taken was my Nonin pulse oximeter. I had not realized it was missing until I went to go to work that night and it was gone! I was so upset I started crying, but still went to work. I was lost without it! I am planning on purchasing the Onyx II, 9550 but it would be even better to have a chance to win one. Thank you very much!"

"She was constantly asking to borrow my pulse ox. The other nurses were using the Dinamap® with its attached oximeter but she much preferred my Onyx® 9500 for its accuracy. Although the respiratory department bought a new Onyx, I preferred to use 'old faithful'. The little guy has seen many years of service. It is so worn many patients and staff ask me when I will get a new one. 'Because it still works like new,' is my reply. I especially appreciate it in the ER when a critical patient comes in and I can get an immediate O2 SAT and heart rate for the physician when the nurses are still turning on their monitors.
Getting back to my borrowing friend, I began to become very fond of her. And in a generous moment, I decided to give her a special gift. During my research, I discovered the Onyx II, 9550. Seeing that was the best in the market (and she was worth it), that was the one I purchased for her. After making her go on a 'treasure hunt' through the hospital with multiple clues, she finally found it. Her reaction was one of complete surprise and joy. In her words, 'I'm out of my mind happy that you did!' She always has it with her in its carrying case and we often check a patient together and compare our results. Again 'old faithful' and his new little sister give us the same values. So add us to the huge list of completely satisfied owners of the best fingertip pulse oximeters available.
P.S. When I obtained my black pug, what did I name her? That's right —Onyx!"

"Our hospital tried the 'other brands' of oximeters and just wasted their money. For reliability and accuracy I don't trust anything but Nonin. When the patient’s life is on the line, I need to know and know it NOW! Only Nonin delivers 'the goods'."

"We have two Onyx oximeters that we have had for 4-5 years. They have been used and abused but keep right on working. I decided to purchase an oximeter for each of my therapists. I have 10 therapists and felt like it would improve their efficiency if they had their own oximeter. The director in me wanted to save a few bucks so I purchased eight off brand oximeters. The price was $150.00 each.
When they arrived I could tell that they were inferior in quality. The springs seemed very light weight. I figured since I bought them we would just go ahead and use them. It was less than a week when the first problem occurred. The oximeter just fell apart! The next issue was the oximeter began to HEAT up in one of my therapist's pockets. It went downhill from there.
Bottom line: I just purchased eight Onyx units and all of my therapists are very happy. They aren't the type of staff that complains so they would have made this inferior product work but I could not allow them to continue to tape and jig the inferior ones. The moral of this story: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! I paid for Chinese technology and quality and that’s what I got. I will never try to save money by buying something that is not proven to work."

"I have used the Onyx® for many years in our ER. It is so easy to use and the kids love it. The best part is that in my "other life" I can use it for easy saturations on children and adults that have fallen from horses. I serve as the first aid for many horse shows and this tool makes many parents and loved ones so much more comfortable when they see that "their breathing is all right". Thanks Nonin for making a great product!!!"

"I tried to convince my boss to replace the hospital's "ancient," constantly in need of repair bulky handheld devices with Onyx® devices. I proved the quality of an Onyx by comparing oximeter readings with the old units. Time after time the Onyx did not disappoint. Later that day we had an emergency in which the old oximeter did not function. We used the Onyx and we were able to obtain accurate readings. My boss was convinced to purchase "the oximeter that worked!"

"We had the need for a durable pulse oximeter for our demanding environment. We needed it to be reliable in any environment even if we are taking fire. The Nonin unit has stood up to harsh use without any difficulty. Highly Recommended!"

"Recently I was caring for a patient in severe sepsis that was starting to have signs of respiratory failure, but looked "a-okay" on the monitor. I quickly dismissed the monitor and asked a fellow tech for their Nonin Onyx pulse ox and received a much more accurate result that made physiological sense. At 80% saturation, we quickly had respiratory practitioners and physicians in the room caring for the patient immediately. Once again Nonin’s Onyx saved the day! The hardest part that day was returning the device to my fellow tech..."

"I have used the same Nonin oximeter nearly every day since I became a respiratory therapist. The oximeter that I have has been severely abused even though I try my best to take care of it. I have accidently dropped it numerous times, it has tested SpO2 on thousands of patients and it has been dropped into water. You name it, and it has been through it. It continues to be one of the most reliable pieces of equipment that I use every day, with every patient in my profession. I would tell anyone that is considering buying a fingertip pulse oximeter that Nonin is the brand to go with. It is probably time to retire the one that I use currently, or who knows, I may pass it on to one of my patients that needs it for home monitoring. I could really use a new one. "

"My son's first road trip was to Disneyland when he was 2 1/2 years old. We never expected the need to visit Disneyland's first aid facility but that's where we ended up when he started to cough and wheeze. The paramedics were brought in after they determined his Sp02 was low and administered albuterol via nebulization. What a scary scenario to go through. From that day forward we knew that in addition to a nebulizer, an accurate and dependable oximeter was a necessity for our son's safety and for the family's peace of mind. After doing the research it was evident that the Nonin brand was the most reputable in the industry. Though maybe more expensive than some other brands of oximeters, price is no object when it comes to the safety of your family. Having a Nonin oximeter handy and knowing it is accurate, dependable, and easy to use — even on a young toddler — makes raising a child a little bit easier. It is so comforting to know that now, whenever my son wheezes, I can easily check his Sp02. Nonin=peace of mind. Thank you Nonin."
